What is your method of getting it to hold 8th and what is "ERS" you mentioned a bunch in one of your above posts.
ERS is the acronym given the paddle shift function. I've found that if I'm entering a highway that's posted for 70 mph and I go to no-throttle at 60 mph the trans will shift to 7th then 8th. The tach will show the steps. Then slowly (and I mean VERY slowly) accelerate to 70 it will stay in 8th. If I give it just a little too much throttle and it downshifts to 7th I can't get to 8th again unless I drop back and go through the process again. The controller just doesn't recognize when it's appropriate to use 8th. While driving (at 70) if traffic slows to a point it downshifts to 7th, once I get back to 70 it will not shift back to 8th. I have to use ERS to manually shift it. It's pretty obvious the programming is not correct as it relates to the use of 8th gear. It puts a lot of distraction into driving if you're trying to get the best overall performance. Automatic transmissions shouldn't require that kind of interaction while driving. Hope that helps.

Sorry if I missed it in all the above. You are saying your 2025 never goes into 8th? As in situations like being very steady on the gas pedal, level ground, highway cruising?

Reason I ask this is some people's definition of steady is not my idea of steady at all. My darling bride for instance is a good driver. Calm, drives the speed limit, etc, but she is NOT steady on the go pedal at all, which can make a 6, 8, 9spd AT a little crazy.
I drive very steady. Usually use cruise control. Flat ground no load. It just does not like 8th gear. It will shift at very low speeds but can't merge onto a highway. If I use paddle shifter I can usually get it to change into 8th but it takes some finesse. I will keep contacting chevrolet corporate and logging the issue. Also gonna start documenting it and keeping records.

Same here. Once I'm on the road at road speed it's cruise on all the way. I use adaptive cruise as well. There are two areas the present programming gets in the way, merging into traffic and achieving a shift to 8th gear, and re-establishing 8th gear when a downshift has taken place. It won't shift back to 8th again unless you're at less than 60, and no-throttle. Unlike the other 7 gears that will shift to the next available gear while accelerating, it won't when 8th is the next gear.

Well this seems to be the smoking gun to the poor gas mileage compared to the previous 1.5Ts
I agree and GM still says it's working as intended even when I can prove it never shifts to 8th gear even at 90 mph. All I have gotten is the run around on this issue.

On a very similar drive, I get better .mileage with my 25 compared to my 18 , both with AWD.

Anyone note that their 2025 RS with 8 speed will not shift to 8th gear? Mine will once and a while if I use the paddle shift mode. Most of the time the display shows I've selected 8th but the transmission never shifts to 8th gear. In D (Drive) it will stay in 7th gear, 2200 RPM at 70 mph. In 8th it will cruise at 1800 RPM.
Yes i have the exact same issue. Have an open cases with gm. So far they tell me it's normal to never use 8th gear at 70 mph

Defflik, you are told by dealer that there is an issue that will be resolved, or these are you words.
The dealer technicians have said it is not working correctly but gm insists that it is working as intended. Their own technicians see there is an issue but gm will not admit their logic programming is faulty. I have it in notes from the technician on work order.

ERS is the designation for the paddle shift system. To get into 8th gear I just hold my speed to less than 62 mph when entering a highway, back off on the throttle to let it shift to 8th and achieve torque converter lock. The tack helps with that. Then accelerate to 70 slowly. Pain in the butt, but it works every time.
