Best tires ?

Hey guys, I need to replace our original tires on the 2021 Equinox, Looking for something better than the original Bridgestone tires that came with it. These are not that great in the snow so looking for something just a little better but not to aggressive.

I have read good reviews on the Cross Climate tires. Not sure the mfg, possibly Goodyear.

General Altimax are nice. My wife just installed them on her Subaru. I like them and will be installing them on my 'nox soon. They are also middle of the road for price. Garage quoted $800 ish for my 19 inch tires.

I can't vouch for their performance in snow since we haven't had any yet this year, but I upgraded to Pirelli Scorpion AS 3 tires last summer and was surprised at how much quieter my ride is now. They have excellent wet and dry traction as well. They cost under $600 for four, plus installation.

How much do you want to spend? If you want the best winter/snow performance, you have to use snow tires. It's expensive and a pain, but the cost of them is far less than putting the vehicle in a ditch or worse.

Next best would be a set of tires with the three peak mountain snow flake emblem/"certification" on them. It's abbreviated 3PMSF. These are classified as all weather tires that can be run all year.

I was in a pinch a few months back with my 2021 Equinox LT AWD. I got an un-repairable flat on one of the Continentals that were on it and all of them were pretty well worn. I ran over something at 4am in the pouring rain on my way home from work. The TPMS went DING! 20psig, 15, 10, 0 whomp.. whomp whomp all in about 10sec. I was in a bad spot and had to drive on the flat for a mile or two to get to an area that I could safely pull over.

I went with an inexpensive set of Mastercraft Stratus from a tire/repair shop close to my home. They're decent for what I paid. I don't expect to get more than 36K miles out of them.

Yeah, I heard the cross Climate were low noise. Surprises me when looking at the thread pattern. I guess you can't tell a book by its cover.

There's so many variables at play when it comes to how a tires does for every individual. My experience with Michelins is they get loud and harsh before they really need to be replaced. Or I'll get a non-repairable flat on my AWD/4x4 where I have to replace all 4 before I really want to. I've been all over the map in regards to tires over the years, from premium to import, to mid-range, in no particular order.

The Cross Climates are exceptional when new. Low noise, comfortable ride, good traction on snow, ice, and great for hydroplaining ( won't snatch the wheel when hitting water). However, after 20 or 30 k miles, the noise and comfortable ride wears off. At 50 K I have 5 to 6 thousanths (maybe a little less on the inside) of the contact patch, and they still work well in snow. Wet road traction is diminished, but they still plow through puddles. I will replace before next winter, and they will definately be a consideration for my next set.

Edit: I am extremely easy on tires. So your mileage may vary

I put Michelin Cross Climate 2's on my LT 2.0 to replace the horrendous Hankook Ventus All-Seasons. Amazing traction at the cost of a very slight increase in road noise.

I can vouch for the Pirelli's. I put a set on my 2023 in October, and they are very grabby in wet and dry conditions. I can't say anything about being in snow, but the fuel mileage dipped a tick. It is slowly coming back up after they have broken in. I got a good deal on them from Discount Tire.

I stuck with the oem Hankook Kinergy GT 19" for my 2023 RS. They're great tires and they look really nice. They originals lasted about 48k miles driving on all sorts of roads.
