Can I put 225/55 R17 snow tires on 2025 Equinox?

I have a set of 225/55 R17 Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT Snow Tires on rims from a previous vehicle. If I can find a rim that fits my Equinox, can I use these? Obviously the speedometer will be off but are there any other down sides? Will it improve traction in snow or will the smaller tire actually be worse? I've tried to sell them but no takers so I'm thinking of trying to use them but don't want to spend money on new rims if it is not going to work. Thanks in advance for your help.

Nope... My factory Equinox Activ comes with 235/65R17 (the size on the right) vs your tire size. Well you could, but...

I knew the speedometer would be off so that wasn't a big concern but, I guess, my REAL question is would I have better traction with the smaller snow tires vs the larger all-weather stock tires? My biggest concern is winter driving and I thought since I already had the snow tires, would it be worthwhile to get a set of rims to put them on.

I have a set of snows on rims from my old 2018 Equinox. The bolt pattern is the same as my 2025.
The dealership part counter worker stated GM doesn't recommend using a tire more than 5 mm different than what is recommended. Mine are 10 mm different and I intend to use them but what you have a a lot farther off the mark.
They design every vehicle so things work with the steering geometry.

When I first install my set I will be paying close attention to whether anything doesn't feel right. if not, I will make the change.

Not sure what model and tire size you 25 Nox has. If they are also 225, then the width would be the same and the traction should be the same. Circumference (17, 18, 19") would not affect traction IMO. Profile (55/65, etc) also would not affect traction, unless you consider the height difference might affect clearance in deep snow.

The old school theory is that a narrower tire will cut thru deep snow/ slush better than a wider tire. A wider tire may have better traction on ice due to more surface area on the road.

My 22 RS has 19" OEM wheels, but I run 17" snow tires, as they cost a LOT less. But the circumference is the same so no speedo changes. The 17 are not as wide, but for me in the great white north, I prefer that for the times we do get a lot of snow. I run Michelin X-Ice and have no issues in ice or any condition.
