I just purchased a 2026 Chevy equinox LT. When approaching my car that’s been sitting a while. I get a hydraulic lift sound. I brought it to the dealer. They said this was normal. Is anybody else experiencing this sound?

Yes, it senses when the keys are nearby. It's a proximity wake-up.

It's a motion sensor alert. Do the lights accessory lights come on as well? I have an RS that reacts every time it senses motion around it.

I can hear the fuel pump pressurizing the system for start when the key is recognized. Great idea instead of waiting for the start button.
That "feature" is the most annoying thing about this vehicle.

I learned to drive in the 1960’s.

If you parked outside in cold weather, it was not unusual to leave the car unlocked - in case the door lock cylinders froze.

In cold weather, you would start a car engine by pushing the accelerator pedal to floor once, to set the automatic choke. Then, you would crank the engine until it started (hopefully). It would run on fast idle, and you would wait a minute or two, then try to “kick down” the choke by taping the accelerator pedal.

If the engine was warm enough, the choke would begin to open fully and the engine idle speed would slow.

Then you could begin to drive away, slowly - until the choke fully opened. If you let the engine run on fast idle too long - the spark plugs would foul due to the excessive gas.

It was common to add a “dry ice” additive to the fuel tank at fillup, to absorb and moisture which could freeze in the fuel lines and prevent engine starting.

The “annoying” fuel pump priming enables your car to start instantly and run smoothly in all climates and weather conditions.

If you read your vehicle owner’s manual, or read it on line, you will see how to change the setting for the fob approaching the car.

It's very annoying when I go in and out of the garage many times a day without starting the car.

I read the manual. It's not there.

The feature is called Approach Detection and there's no setting described in the manual.

Approach Detection not only pressurizes the fuel system but also turns on lights, energizes the dashboard somewhat and also the energizes USB ports in the center console.
