Frozen handle

Hey!

just to inform you of something that happen yesterday and today. We had rain two days ago with 6 celcius, yesterday it was snow, wind and -25.

The door lock was frozen. I can open the door but the lock stay on, so I can't shut the door. So I used the hair dry of my wife to heat him a little bit. After 2 or 3 minutes, it works perfectly. So I shut and lock the door and go to bed.

This morning, -27 and still windy. The door open but don't shut. I'm late to work, so I drive the 2 km by holding the door with my left hand, very dangerous and I don't recommend it to anyone.

I put it in our drive tru for 3 hours. So the car warmed up, everything start working fine again. I've put some ac delco lubricant on the lock to remove any kind of water or humidity. After that I've put a lot of low temperature grease (Wurth HHS 2000), a grease that can handle temperature as low as -70 celcius.

I'll keep you updated of how it works.

Everything seems to be OK after a couple of test. Hope it will stay that way ... -20 again tonight.

I left the hose hooked up with the water spicket open on the house one cold night and I was able to get the hose off with pliers. But I had to boil water to get the frozen spicket to cut loose so I could turn it off. Worked well.

Hate the cold temperature. Hate when it too hot also .. perfect weather for me will be 20 all year long, where can I find that ? lol

I have seen some stuff in a spray can, think it was called ice off or something like that. You spray it into the locks and it melts the ice.

it is the lock mechanism that was frozen... the door latch inside the door.. hard to spray it inside

Hopefully it will be a light year for all that ice! I do like snow but the ice? Not so much.

been 70 + here all week.
Last year at this time we had a lot of snow.
What a difference a year can be.

We had 10 inches of snow a few weeks ago. That is unheard of out here in the desert! Sure helped our moisture totals, though.
