I have a 2019 Equinox with the 1.6 Diesel. It has roughly 170,000KMs on it. I've owned it for 2 years, purchased at 100,000KMs.

I want to know what everyone's operating temps are with this car. I feel like mine temps are too high on average. Whenever the outside temps reach around 15C* degrees or higher, my coolant engine temps always read between 100C* & 105C* degrees. Even cruising on the highway, it always stays in that range. During the cooler months, it'll be down around 84C* to 90C*. I understand its warmer outside, but, I've owned other cars that basically sit at 90C* all year round regardless of the ambient temps.

I've had the cooling system inspected many times. I've had the system flushed. Pretty much everything except just randomly replaces parts.

Last year there were a few very hot days where the temps exceeded 115C* & the temp gauge would climb over half. I had to turn off the AC in that moment to get the temps to go back down. Other Equinox owners I've spoken to say their engine temps stay in the mid 85C* to 90C* even in the hot Arizona heat.

Could it be just a failing thermostat that hasn't thrown a code yet? Or are those temps actually normal?

I own the same engine in my 2018 Equinox. You would think in Minnesota it doesn't get hot but our summer temps do get quite high. Never any problem with overheating of the engine. It does sound like a thermostat problem. If it is slow in opening or not opening all the way it will cause this kind of over heat. Also it could be a radiator cap problem that lets coolant out when it should not. I doubt it is the radiator or engine block itself so a flush will not help. A diesel will run a little hotter than a gas engine but not as much as you are stating you have recorded. It should not be getting that hot! Good news is I doubt it has done any damage to the engine.
