Swapping hood prop for struts.

My Mother has a 2009 Pontiac Torrent that has hood struts instead of the ugly prop rod. Is there any reason why I can't swap out the prop rod for struts on my 2007 Equinox?

I will measure the lenght needed and check with a supplier for universal hood struts
