Hello, new here so idk if I’m posting this in the right spot, but I need help! I have a 2011 Equinox and I am having the following issues:
-engine idles very high then low and back and forth like that at times
-dying when coming to a stop or even approaching a stop. I have to keep one foot in gas and one on brake the stop it from dying
-for the last few weeks I have been having to put antifreeze in it every couple days. It has never run completely out, I’ve only seen it maybe a half inch below the fill like
-a couple days ago it doesn’t want to start, it just spits and sputters, did start eventually
-today when started a huge white smoke could came from exhaust and lasted a minute or so
Now in light of all of that the research I’ve done mostly says cracked block or blown head gasket. But I have NEVER allowed this car to overheat. I am not a complete idiot, I always keep an eye on gauges on any car I’ve ever owned. The temp gauge has never not once been past the halfway point. It always under that. There has never been any kind of smoke from under the hood, it has never been driven hot. I have been told that the motor my car has is total shit, which seem to be true. But I just emptied my 401k to buy this piece of shit so I could really used some advice if anyone has any idea what the problem could be. THANK YOU

Unfortunately, it probably is a POS. Sounds like a blown head gasket. You say that you have never seen the temp gauge go into the danger zone, but probably the previous owner did, and that's why they got rid of it. You are looking at an expensive repair, and it may be time to get rid of the car.

You emptied your 401K to buy a 2011 Equinox without doing ANY research on the vehicle prior to purchasing it? Lesson learned for researching after the fact?

Is there water in the oil? if so, it could be a head gasket. Or, it could be the water pump causing water and oil to mix.

Take it to a shop or get rid of it. We can't diagnose it over the internet.
