Never turns it off so AWD on all the time. On my 2022 Escalade ESV, I generally run in 2 wheel drive for better mileage; it stays in the last setting 2 WD, 4 WD, or AWD. We rotate tires at oil change. The 2019 Equinox still has even tread on all tires and plenty of tread at 42,500 miles. I drive her car a lot, and remain impressed with its MPG and (KOW) its lack of repair needs.
So maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the equinox is always in FWD and you have to manually press the AWD button to turn it on. That’s how my 2019 and my 2022 are at least.

Wrong, unless something wrong with your system; the light on the switch should be lit when active and should retain the last setting. Hopefully, you have your manual; I always scan initially and eventually read the whole thing. This is for 2019 Equinox LT 1.5L AWD

BTW. the manual is downloadable and free for your model year.

Yes I have the manual on my phone. I did not know it would stay on when the car restarted if the vehicle already had it engaged. Shows how much I use AWD Lol

My only complaint about the AWD switch is that it's location is poor and sometimes accessing the storage compartment in front of it, I push the button turning it on or off. I've learned to check it, especially if I fill up the tank and notice slightly less mpg. Not to the extent of the OP, but it does drop a bit.

As for the OP, if the engine is running fine, and no symptoms seem to be present, perhaps resetting the computer would help. It would then relearn to your driving habits and hopefully provide better mpg. Disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 30 minutes or more. Keep in mind that doing this will cause most or all of your settings to revert to default and you will have to reprogram radio stations and menu settings.

I'm assuming that you've checked the air filter and other normal maintenance items? One thing I have not seen much are gas mileage complaints.

My 2020 2.0L AWD gets anywhere between 18 and 21 MPG in the city and 29-31 on the interstate. AWD drops the mileage maybe 1 MPG at highway speeds.

I have seen city mileage as low as 16 MPG when doing a lot of stop and go short trips and not getting on the interstate at all. Or lower when my wife is driving. :) Seriously, she can knock 3 MPG off of any car.

I just bought a 2021 equinox lt awd. Can anyone tell me why it's saying I'm getting 16.1 miles per gallon city?? Bopught it Used, one owner and only 34770 milage.
Don’t believe the numbers they tell you. I just bought a 2024 equinox, was told by dealership I would get 26 city and 31 high. Well, I drive around city 40 to 60 k a day with it. Averaged about 3.5k per gallon. I was putting in about 40 dollars every two days. Had enough wasting money, so I traded it in on the equinox LT 2026 EV. What a difference. Getting about five to 7 days per charge.

I have a 2019 1.5 L AWD LT turbo and mileage is never under 20 mpg with all driving urban. Usually 24-27 mpg and whole lot of idling for 3 grandkids A/C or heating comfort.

Mileage depends a lot on oil. Mine urges 0W-20 and I've used it for 6 years. Still running same plugs.

Holy guacamole, you had a serious problem with that gas mileage. I suspect you had a gas leak because if all that petrol going through the engine, you would have had horrible performance.

Do use top tier gas because of the cleaning agents; it's why recommended in your manual. Also, you probably have direct fuel injection so even that fuel won't was your valves like port injection would. Keep a check on them. Of course you are running an EV now so not applicable.

The Equinox is my daughter's, I drive a 2022 Escalade ESV. I looked at the EscaladeIQ EV and was impressed but too many things wouldn't work for me. Loved the turning radius though. Good luck.

Sounds like a fake post.
Never heard of 2 miles per gallon on a 2024 Equinox.
How did you drive 75 miles in 2 days without running out of gas?

I bought a '24 recently. 46,000 miles. 1/2 tank of fuel. i was getting 22 mpg with a 5 mile commute and a few stops. Another user suggested i dump a small bottle of Lucas Oil fuel treatment. I bought 1 bottle of Upper Cylinder treatment (which i added in the store parking lot), and a bottle of Deep Clean (which I added at next fill up with Top Tier fuel). I am at low 26 MPG. I rarely get above 50mph.
