I have a 2022 Premier Equinox and have had no problems with the car since I had purchased it. However, I have noticed over the last couple of months that the Auto/Stop feature does not apper to be working anymore (it always has in the past). And I am wondering if this situation will cause any short term or long term problem for the car? I have talked to Chevy service and they recommend that I brig the car in for service; not an answer to the question.

The car runs perfect, gas milage is the same as when I purchased it 49,000 miles ago. The red light on the dash board remains on when I am driving. The light will go off if I press the button. No noticable difference in performance if the light is on or off.

I persoanlly do not have any opinoin if the auto stop works or it does not work I just want some verification that if it is broken, and I do not get it repaired will it cause problems with the engine or the car?

Yes I know about the override cable, but that is not installed in the car.

Does anyone have any experience like this.

You posted in the 4th generation forum (2025 - 2026 models).

You may want to post in the 3rd generation form, as there may be members there that have experience with the issue you are having.

The computers monitor the car battery condition to assure the battery has enough capacity to reliably restart the car. When the car determines the battey is getting too weak it autmatically disables auto start/stop.

My 2020 did the same thing and a new battery from Autozone fixed it. My kid's 2022 Kona did the same thing and a new battery from Autozone fixed it.

You have a 2022. Buy a new battery.

Auto stop/start not working is not going to harm a thing. From a basic wear and tear standpoint, it not working should make things last longer.

The issue here is, what is the root cause of a/s/s not working? In my mind, if it was something important, the check engine light would be lit and/or you'd have drivability or performance problems.

It's possible you have stored codes that are not yet a big enough issue to light the check engine light.

Auto Stop/Start not working my be an indication something else is wrong. The computers have to "happy" before that feature works. If they sense a problem, Stop/Start won't work. Nothing beats a scan with a good scanner capable of reading ALL the computers. The cheaper ones won't be able to do that. Try Autozone, O'Reilly's or Advance Auto (any good auto parts store) and ask them to scan your vehicle if you don't have a good scanner.

I have had 3 Nox's over the years and I have found when I diconnect the battery for any reason it sems to rest the computer (ECM) which stops the auto stop from operating. It usually takes a couple of weeks for it to reset and start working again. May not be your issue but thought I would share it in case.

I am fairly sure it won't cause any problems. In fact, my 2019 auto stop only works after a long (100 mi. +) drive and I've put off replacing the battery because I despise auto stop. Once I do replace the battery I'll try the bypass cable.

The fact that start-stop isn't working doesn't harm anything but it could be an indicator of something else. My 2018 Premier did the same thing just before the battery failed. I have a feeling there's something in the system that monitors battery condition and if the battery doesn't meet specific criteria the start-stop will not work. Just a thought; you might want to get a load test on the battery.

Sounds like a win. The only function of start/stop is to gain a little gas mileage. Bet you didn't notice your mileage any different. The first thing I did when we brought the used 2020 home was order then install a start/stop defeat cable.

I am jealous!!! I had to purchase a $25 module to disable the auto stop on our 2018 Nox. Yours appears to have "stopped/stopping" on its own!! :LOL:At least on the 2018's, there is no way to turn the auto-stop off. One of the most irritating (to me) functions on our vehicle. (Coming home: Pull into our garage, the engine stops, put it in park, the engine cranks/starts, cut the engine off. Now, that is saving gas, right??)

As previously mentioned, my Equinox Start/Stop stopped working one day. Checked the battery voltage, which was low (12.3v). Placed it on a charger overnight and it started working for the next couple of days, then it stopped working again. I only drove the vehicle 4 miles to work which probably not enough to recharge the battery. After replacing the battery, it worked fine for the next year or so, then I installed the cable from Amazon the defeat it. That start/stop annoyed me.

It's a personal preference I guess. I have a 2025 RS that has a feature to shut it off. I don't use it. It's fine just as it is. The 2025, unlike previous models, is very subtle about the stop and start. Unless you're really paying attention to just that you wouldn't know it's doing it. My 2018 Premier was very obvious about it so I can understand why someone might be bothered by it.

Think of it as the canary in the coal mine. Will it 'not working' cause a problem - No. Does not working indicate a problem - maybe. For stop start to work a long list of conditions must be met, battery voltage, engine temperature, accessories in use or not in use, ambient air temp, and on and on. A list of over a dozen conditions need to be met for it to operate and there is even a longer list of conditions that will defeat it. The only way to find out what is going on is a complete system scan, NOT the free one that auto parts stores offer. They just want to use fault codes as a parts list to sell you stuff. So something is up and a checkup at your local trusted independent auto repair shop is highly recommended. Good luck!

While what you wrote is very true, me, I would balance the cost of that diagnostic charge that is usually $99 around here for an independent shop against the price of a new battery in a 2022. If the shop would credit the diagnostic charge towards any repairs that would help.

But knowing a four-year old battery or a five year-old battery is getting a bit aged I'd replace the battery and see what happens. Because I'm living on borrowed time and likely will need to replace the battery in a year or two anyways.

And I did and it fixed auto start/stop so I promptly installed the defeat cable because I got used to it not working. :)

I agree with the posters who suggested a new battery, or at the very least getting your current battery load tested. Down here in Florida, I don't think I've ever had a battery last longer than 3 or 4 years. So if your '22 Nox still has the original battery, it may very well be on its way out.

You can follow the data or take a guess, to each his own I s'pose.
