Problems with 2025 equinox

While in “drive” mode - push the “M” button on the left side of the steering wheel pad. Then use the paddle shifters to shift up or down manually.

I stand corrected - the button to push on the left side of the steering wheel pad is "L" (not "M").

Read the owners manual to see what the manual mode actually does. It is not as great of a feature as many are expecting.

That manual shift mode would only really be handy if I wanted more engine compression braking. In full auto it seems to remain in a higher gear even when you take your foot fully off the throttle. It rolls along full steam until you hit the brakes. On downhills especially, it continues coasting unless you ride the brake all the way to the bottom.

I loved the system in my old CRV, where at the touch of a button on the column lever, it would kick it out of overdrive, and begin slowing down. This was good when rolling down a hill, or approaching a red light on the highway. It also had the Honda grade logic transmission to drop down a gear automatically if the gear it was in was high and you let off the throttle and started to coast.
