I just got a 2017, 2.4, FWD. I see all the mods for the PCV system and had some questions that maybe someone could answer or maybe lead me in the right direction.

I've watched quite a few YouTube videos (that makes me an expert right?) and I'm thinking of adding a regular PCV valve to a modified oil cap, connect to an oil catch can, and tee it into the brake booster line the connects after the throttle body.

This new hose would be pulling air from the same "location" (above the cams) as the hose that comes out of the valve cover on the passenger side and connects to the intake before the throttle body. Is there any need to keep that hose on the passenger side of the valve cover if the new PCV line is added? I'd rather not have oil on the throttle body if it can be helped and I don't want to add a second catch can just for that. Less oil on the intake valves would be better too. I'd cap/plug the holes since they aren't being used.

Also, if I add the new PCV valve, is there any need to clear the small hole in the intake manifold that is currently used as the PCV system? Can I just let it clog? It seems to be pulling from a different area of the engine. I'm assuming it's not pulling air from up top, above the cams, like the others.

Has anyone capped off the "clean" side hose and added the "dirty" side for PCV?

Thanks!

Check out this document which describes my PCV valve mod including parts. It’s been in service for 3 years with no problems. https://docs.google.com/document/d/112XUjV3PzkT-Jqf24H0axhsiP4pI9SrzEQcrf6fO3Yk/edit?usp=drivesdk

I also have the 2017 2.4l fwd and have done the pcv mod a few months back exactly as tico007 has linked here. I would keep the fresh air side hose because without it will affect the maf sensor. The oil catch can in the mod has taken out all the oil/water/fuel that would go to the throttle at least in my setup. I did a test with a 2nd oil catch can on the fresh air side (passenger) absolutely nothing after 500 miles -bone dry. Hope this helps.

Is the 2 1/2 foot of hose that comes with the catch can enough to perform this mod?
this is for a 16 equinox 2.4, not my 2018

It’s been a few years since I installed it. At the time the evil energy catch can kit came with enough hose. I don’t know if that’s still the case. Worst case AutoZone will cut you hose. 3/8.

2013 with the 2.4, installed the can on the dirty side 1st and it would fill up every 200 miles or so. Added the 2nd can to the clean side a month ago. See very little fluid in the dirty side so far but still seeing a tablespoon or so of fluid in the clean side. Clean side seems like the way to go so far.

You splice it into the PVC line that goes to the air box.
is one of the videos but there are several on youtube. I hooked mine under the plastic instead of mounting it cause it doesnt want to unscrew when it gets real cold. Just checked them both after a few hundred and clean side is full and dirty side is empty. Tempted to try drilling the hole to clean out the PVC hole but worried I'll mess it up.

You said you installed it on the dirty side first. That’s what I want to know about. In the video thats not the dirty side of the PCV system. It’s putting a catch can on the clean side. Which should not be needed if the dirty side works properly.

Guess I am wording it wrong, there is the one where you bypass through the oil cap and tie it to the brake booster on this thread is the "Clean Side" I was talking about.

If there is another way to do it other than those 2 I'll probably have to try that as well.
