I ran a Fram Endurance oil filter on my 2021 Equinox 1.5T for this past oil change. 4500 miles on the oil/filter and ~44K miles total on the vehicle. I ran Valvoline Restore & Protect 0w20 FWIW. This is the first Fram oil filter I've used in over 20yrs. I have to say I am very impressed with the Endurance line. It's a heavy, strongly built filter and the media is like nothing I've ever seen. I tried cutting the medial out for demonstration purposes, but made a mess of it because it is so thick and tough. It's like trying to cut carpet from the fuzzy side. Overkill for 4-5K oil changes? Probably so.

I'm a dummy. I figured out why I couldn't cut the media out of this filter easily. The media has wire mesh backing.

AND…as you probably already know: FRAM filed bankruptcy and will be out of business…unless someone “steps in”….soon. I have ONLY used top line FRAM in all my toys.

I used Fram all the time, until the late 90's. Then the o rings started sticking to the block and would not stay with the filter. My neighbor at the time double gasketed his expedition filter and destroyed the engine.

I might be inclined to not blame the filter for that one but everyone has their own view I 'spose.

I ran out of the Fram synthetic endurance and you can't get them anymore unless you find new old stock somewhere. Since then, I've been running Ecogard X2500's on my equinox 1.5. I got a deal on a case of 12 of them and use them on my Malibu and Traverse as well.

My dad taught me to double check, clean the smooth area where the gasket mates and put clean oil on the gasket before installing. My neighbor may not have had a dad like that.

I have a friend that had a 26' fishing boat with a 10 cylinder Viper motor. Trashed it by not realizing the oil filter o-ring didn't come off when he changed oil. I always check (it's easy on the 2.0 equinox), but any motor. Always clean the mating surface.

What a shame about the boat engine. I'm sure that wasn't a cheap fix. Boats never are. B.O.A.T.=Bust Out Another Thousand
