Equinox disable auto/stop/start

I had a auto parts store manager tell me today that there is a way to use the diagnostic port to permanently disable the auto stop/start feature. Anyone heard of this?

Lots of info on this, Google is your friend. They sell a patch cable for about $15 give or take that goes in between your hood latch and wiring harness that disables that feature. I've used one since 3/36 K warranty expired om my 2018 Equinox. No issues.

I very much doubt there is way to permanently disable it with a scan tool. If there was, it would probably require GM diag equipment to do so.

Use the disable button on every startup if so equipped.

For the unlucky ones like ~2018-2023 owners with no disable button, you have to rely on the mail-order disabler cables to rid yourself of this awful feature.

I just purchased a 2022 LT and it does have the start/stop disable button. Haven't used it yet since it's still hot where I live.

My 2019 Premier's start/stop functioning has a couple of issues. One is that when the car was new the start/stop operation was imperceptible enough that it didn't bother me. After six years of AZ heat and the natural degradation of rubber parts it has become somewhat obnoxious, leading me to use the L9 disable trick more often. The second is that on my car the "feature" just stops working after 3 to 5 thousand miles. I mean it just doesn't work anymore. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery starts it working again. This has happened four times so it's not my imagination. Go figure.

I have the disable button in my '24, but I would forget to hit it sometimes... so I ended up getting the pigtail adapter so that I would never have to worry about it again. No issues with it whatsoever.

2022 and newer has the disable button. 2021 was the last year for no button. I know you said ~, just narrowing it down for folks.

Quick question - do you leave your stop/start disable cable installed when you take your Equinox in to the dealership for service? I installed one in my 2021 because it did not have the disable button. Just wondering what the dealership might say, especially since I bought the GM warranty when I bought the car in August.

I did remove it a couple of months ago when I had to take it in to have a cooling fan replaced. But I did leave it in place this last weekend when I just took it in for an oil change. I would suggest temporarily removing it if you need to take the car in for any service issues or warranty work, to avoid the potential of them saying it invalidates your warranty.

FYI, my 2019 2.0T eats batteries: I have had to change it every two years, The dealer says it's the auto-stop. I do a lot of local/stop and go driving, so it's invoked a lot.

I expect it is the auto-stop combined with a lot of short trip driving. If you don't get the car out on the highway periodically to fully recharge the battery they will die early, not to mention it is really hard on the engine in general. The original battery in my 2019 2.0t lasted 5 years, which is pretty good for Southern AZ, but I have to get on the highway first for 10 miles or so to go anywhere.
