TPMS Relearn

I've seen on this forum (I think) that the 2025 Equinox will automatically relearn the tire locations after rotation. But there is also a menuitem to start a TPMS relearn. On my Camaro this would direct me to add or remove pressure from the tires to relearn. I really don't want to do this because they are nitrogen filled.

Does anyone have knowledge or experience wit the TPMS? The owners manual, even the online version, is completely useless for this.

I don't see anything in the 2025 manual regarding a a manual relearn:

TPMS Sensor Matching Process — Auto
Learn Function
Each TPMS sensor has a unique identification
code. The identification code needs to be
matched to a new tire/wheel position after
rotating the tires or replacing one or more of
the TPMS sensors. When a tire is installed,
the vehicle must be stationary for about
20 minutes before the system recalculates.
The following relearn process takes up to 10
minutes, driving at a minimum speed of 20
km/h (12 mph). A dash (-) or pressure value
will display in the DIC. See Driver Information
Center (DIC) 3 102. A warning message displays
in the DIC if a problem occurs during the
relearn process.

I was hoping to avoid that, since the car seems to have some sort of relearn built in. That is plan B.

Has anyone tried the relearn menu item? If so what does it do?

When you used the relearn tool, how did you put the Equinox in manual relearn mode? I'm asking because I plan to buy snow tires and rims that come with their own TPMS sensors. Having the vehicle recognize 4 new TPMS sensors is different then just recognizing that the 4 original sensors have moved to new positions (after a tire rotation).

Go into service mode by pressing the start button for more than 5 seconds with foot off the brake.

Scroll to the tire pressure display in the DIC. Press and hold the check mark in the center of the DIC control. The horn will honk twice. Starting with the driver front tire, place the relearn tool near the valve stem and press the button on the relearn tool. Repeat these steps at right front, right rear, and left rear tires. The horn will honk twice indicating the test is over. Turn off the car. FYI, this needs to be completed within two minutes.

I used this method to identify which of my TPMS sensors had died a premature death. Please note that these instructions are for Gen 3 vehicles, but they might work for Gen 4.
