Steering wheel wrap

Hello all

I just picked up a 2026 Equinox EV LT and hate the steering wheel. I put a leather wrap on it and made a huge improvement but I’d like to tuck the edges of the wrap under the trim on the spokes. Has anyone figured out how to remove the center trim of the steering wheel? I can only find one screw in the back of the wheel. Normally there are 3.

You may be tampering with the airbag - which can fire when the engine is not turned-on / activated. Need I say, “be careful”?

Thanks. Fully aware of airbag danger but appreciate the reminder. Disconnect 12V and wait 30 min. I figured the steering wheels were probably the same between gas and elec.

As a follow up, I found a couple YouTube videos on swapping the LT steering wheel for the leather one. In one, they swapped the trim pieces to avoid having a nonfunctioning heated steering wheel button. To remove the trim, you need to remove the airbag (2 bolts on either side of column under plastic covers), then remove the steering wheel (center nut under airbag module), then remove a bunch of small screws from the back of the wheel. I don’t think I’ll be doing this anytime soon.

I picked up one of the $16 leather ones off Amazon (https://a.co/d/00PaSmP) and some blue leather thread for $6 cuz I wanted to match the car color. First time I’ve done this and took a little time and some adjusting but turned out OK. Be better if I could tuck those edges under the trim but not worth breaking something in the steering wheel. Gonna get blue accented seat covers next.
