Equinox 2025 USB player sucks

I bought an Equinox 2025 two weeks ago and Im very frustrated with the stereo system. It only plays Mp3 files and not WMAs. When using the USB it goes in automatic shuffle after turning the car off and on. It doesn't have a automatic repeat a song, or repeat an album button. only has a previous song or next song. It only start music were you left off on the first song of the album then it goes to shaffle. After that you have to search for the album again to to play your favorite album. No wonder the asians cars are better. This junk only has two speakers no way to add more . Jeep and Hyundai have a better system. This weekend this car is going back to a dealer and I'm going back to a Hyundai.

I concur with your dislike of the way the flash drive music is handled. I came to the 'Nox from Honda, and I am spoiled - I expected that GM would be better than it is. All your comments are right on the mark.

My 14 and 18 Nox both had MP3 players that I installed. When I got my 25 Nox the first thing I did was to install my MP3 but no dice. It just said this (something) is not supported. I am getting by with my Amazon.music but I would like to use my MP3. I used the standard USB plug. Was that my mistake? Did I need to use the smaller USB plug? Please help I love my 25 Nox but I miss my MP3.

On my 2025 'nox,
I use the USB-c ( the little one ), My DashCam uses the bigger USB port.
It took me quite a while to figure out how to make the USB mp3 player work the way I wanted it to work.
Between the WMA's and MP3's I am used to that so that was a piece of cake for me but I can understand the struggle.
There is lots of software available for converting "WMA's to MP3's.
I've used "Winamp" on my computer for years for making playlists and playing music in the house,
I make up the USB thumbdrive on my computer. I haven't been able to get around the randomizing completely, but, making playlists, on my computer seems to help. The hard part about that was editing the default drive. My computer makes the player look for the "song" in the "E:" drive and the car makes the player look in the "H:" drive. On top of that weirdness, when the USB thumb drive is in my computer it is the "M:" drive. Go Figure.

I just make playlists on Amazon and access them using Google or sometimes Android Auto.

If anyone is still having trouble with their vehicle, with some testing I found that after a car's reset (or re-index of USB drive via unplugging and plugging back in), the songs will not necessarily shuffle, but will more so return to an alphabetical order.

So let's say you're playing All Time Low's album "Nothing Personal". If you're playing the first track of the album ("Weightless") then turn your car off and on, once that first track ends the next song to play will be the song with the first place in the alphabet (in this case "A Party Song"), and then it will continue in alphabetical order until it goes through every song on that album.

So by adding a number at the beginning of each song's title, you can force the car even after a restart to play your album in order.

This is exclusive to the song's 'title' metadata, and changing the file name has no affect on what order the song is played after restarting your car (or playing the album in general).

I've also discovered that adding a '.m3u' (playlist) file to your album's folder has no benefit for the issue of your car restarting. By categorizing songs in playlists the car will actually completely forget what song it's playing after a restart.

I also found an oddball occurrence with some albums, where it wouldn't play in alphabetical order like I mentioned, but instead in a seemingly random order, not in actuality. When I tested "Dirt" by Alice in Chains, after playing the first song on the album ("Them Bones") and restarting the car the next song to play was "Untitled", which is not the next song in alphabetical order. I tested this specific album a couple of times, and the next song to play was always "Untitled". I encountered the same occurrence with "Phobia" by Breaking Benjamin. Regardless, using the numbering method I mentioned before fixed this issue for all the albums that had this issue.

I should mention I was testing on a 2021 Equinox. I hope if you're reading this I saved you the headache I received. If you're particularly tech savvy I recommend Mp3tag for easy title changing. If this didn't solve your issue let me know!
