Why did 4th gen not offer the 2.0L engine? The 1.5L is sluggish in comparison if it moves anything like the 3rd gen.

I test drove a 3rd gen 1.5L before I purchased the 2L, and the 1.5L left me feeling underwhelmed.

I understand the 1.5L is intended to be used for fuel conscious drivers, but I am sure they could have offered it as standard for the RS -or- ACTIV.

Also, why in the world did they pull the back seat auto-fold handles from the cargo bay????? lol


On a positive note, 4th gen looks damned good compared to 3rd.

I've been wondering about the 2.0 going away myself. The 1.5 is certainly adequate, but my 2020 2.0 is a thing of joy. I can only imagine a money based decision? They can sell all the 1.5s they make so why continue to cram all that lovely extra horsepower under the hood? The business of business can be very confusing.

GM phased out the LTG 2.0t (252hp to 275hp) in the early 2020's and replaced it with a detuned LSY 2.0t (228 to 237hp) designed for better fuel efficiency. For whatever reason GM chose not to offer the LSY engine in the Equinox, which I have always maintained was a terrible mistake on their part.
