Stereo issues

My 2012 has been sitting since my wife passed away. So we charged the battery and and started the car up. We have no stereo. Won't even come on.. We needed the car so my daughter drove it to work. She says sometimes it comes on fi she does certain things (like turn it on and off) She said when it would come on it showed it was downloading the system. Then go off again. or play until she shuts the car off and won't come back after starting the car. I have read sometimes people will replace the unit and still not work. Is this something a dealer can check or even a mom-and-pop garage. Does it need to be downloaded the info? When I mention taking it to someone, she screams how much it will cost We have tried the disconnect the battery

I would try to download what it needs in your driveway at home and see what happens. The worse thing that can happen is it doesn't work and have to take it to a audio store to have it looked at.
