2019 Equinox Premier 2.0T LTG throttle body filthy

I have had a light idle shudder and took off the intake to inspect the throttle body. Please attached photos.

I noticed oil in the throttle body and the pipe has moist liquid inside it.

I am wondering if this is normal or something really bad going on?

There also is a tapping noise at start up that lasts as long as the starter runs but the starter was changed with no change in symptoms.

Stumped … looking for advice or resources to read.

Oil carry-over seems to be normal for the 2.0 and 1.5. Much of the PCV system is routed to the turbo compressor inlet, so crank case vapors are forced through the turbo, through the charge air cooler / intercooler and into the throttle body. A dealer is probably going to tell you it's normal and charge you $200+ for a throttle body cleaning. A throttle re-learn needs to be done after a cleaning, so the bulk of the price is probably in the scan tool required to do that.

The bulk of the oil and water from the PCV system wind up pooling in the CAC/intercooler because it has nowhere else to go. On my 2021 Equinox 1.5T, I did a little experiment by drilling a tiny hole in the plastic end cap on the outlet side of the CAC. Right at the bottom, at the lowest spot. Small amounts of oil are always coming out of it when the vehicle is under way. Not enough that it drips on the ground, but enough that I have to wipe down the underside of the bumper cover on the driver's side from time to time.

You have to be careful doing this, as too large a hole (air leak) will cause underboost codes, etc. The tiny hole I drilled could easily be plugged should I need to.

Stumped and bringing to dealership Monday. 105k miles… looking for advice or resources to read.

For gas engines, I use Seafoam additive every other fueling. It is really great stuff for keeping injectors and fuel components clean.

I just cleaned the throttle body on my 2020 1.5. I followed the instructions in the TSB #22-NA-224. The CAC Pipe clip must be replaced. I did not need a relearn. The shuddering at idle is gone. I did find oil in the TB and the CAC tube. I also use TECHRON on the injectors every 5,000 miles.
