2019 equinox Gas gage problems

2019 equinox Gas gage seams to stay on full for a long time before moving just started could it be a gas senser gone bad also when checking the miles per gal its not correct it says i get 38 mpg city driving?

do you top off when filling the gas tank? They say repeated topping off can ruin the gas gauge sensor.
