Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Thanks,.... fingers crossed. After having that Ford Flex for 2 months before the engine went, well, kinda hoping this is a bit more dependable. :D

Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Well, bought the Terrain... New rockers, chain done 6 months ago, new transfer case, new battery, and can't recall the other, suspension part. Very little rust, interior mint, fully loaded with all features and leather. Only problem was the tire pressure sensor needed done, two rear tires, both...

Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Well, I went back to College full-time when I was 30, and for the past 18yrs have done all my own work, minus tires, alignment, and once a wheel bearing because there was 12" snow out and the 4x4 looked harder to do than it was on my '02 Impala or '97 Lumina was. That Lumina was a TANK! Paid...

Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Well... I'm no mechanic. I try to do as much as I can myself... brakes (pads/rotors/calipers) are easy, replaced a few starters, fluid flushes and changes, throttle body... easy on/off parts. Engine... never worked on before. Not even the plugs. RAM right now (I have a 2003 Ram) is one thin...

Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Actually looking tomorrow at a V6 Terrain... on here and the Terrain site, had so many people warn me against the 4cyl, and seen so many videos about the chain and pcv issues, and so many used cars as-is with those issues, I figured it's not worth the MPG difference, get the V6. :D Fingers...

Timing Chain - Upper Guide Bolt (4cyl)

Buying either the Equinox or Terrain with the 4cyl engine, and wondered about the upper guide bolt issues. I see places like Dorman make an "upgrade" bolt, but all the sites that do an have videos, don't respond to questions and instructions miss a few steps. Everything seems fine for removal...

Timing Chain Bolt - Oil Consumption

Lucky? Make it sound like all have the issue... starting to lean towards a Murano instead. :D Well, again, not sure where you're from but here, you show up in suburbia with tools and start taking stuff apart, the seller tends to freak out. Even used car dealers now, and new car dealers with...

Timing Chain Bolt - Oil Consumption

Well that's the issue in the video... the bolts have a gap between them and the cover bolt so they shake loose and pop-out, maybe not 100% out but at an angle enough to mess up the guide. I dunno, watched about 6 vids on the same thing so, must happen to someone.

Timing Chain Bolt - Oil Consumption

Sadly, won't be able to check the bolt when looking at used cars. People get antsy if you start taking their car apart in their driveway. :D

Timing Chain Bolt - Oil Consumption

I thought for the 4cyl that the chain stretch issue was due to that one bolt becoming loose and eventually falling out, which throws the guide out of place which causes the stretch? That's how the vids show it.... Oil wise, for the 4cyl (not 6cyl) doesn't the PCV valve issue have something to...

Timing Chain Bolt - Oil Consumption

I'm looking to buy a used Equinox, probably 2011-2013 AWD is in around my budget. Doing some research and read something about increased oil consumption on the 4-cyl models being a potential issue? Not sure if anyone can tell me what that's about? Other issue for the Equinox is the timing chain...
