I installed an aftermarket CURT hitch and CURT 56427 wiring to my Equinox LT, and trailer wiring doesn't work as noted above. I was aware of the potential issue with this not working but bought the wring anyway. I'm an electrical engineer, this should be a cake walk right? Wrong. I did some digging in TDS on this issue and this is what I found... Short version of the story is that IF you bought the trailer hitch kit from Chevrolet AND you have a competent dealer, they should be able to get the 4 pin connector working for you. Reprogramming the 'Lighting Control Module' to allow trailer wiring requires your VIN number AND the activation code included in the genuine hitch kit. Otherwise, you are out of luck. :( This all seems to run afoul of 'right to repair' laws in my opinion... Even if I had purchased an MDI2 adapter and an SPS2 subscription for my VIN, I would not have been able to get the aftermarket adapter to work.

Reprogram the Lighting Control Module (model year 2025 vehicles only). Refer to in Vehicle Service Manual. Note: If programming is attempted BEFORE contacting TCSC, SPS will not deliver the correct accessory calibration to the vehicle. The user may also receive a message advising they are attempting to program with the “same calibration” – a warning that the vehicle has not received the required accessory calibration.
