Most likely the low oil caused the camshaft actuator solenoids to kick the code. Check oil frequently and never go by the oil life indicator. Change it no more than 5k or so
I'm new to this forum as well as a new owner of an Equinox. I've read plenty of post of issues where they go into limp mode, seems to be the pcv system is stopped up which can blow the main seal. May not be your issues but I'd start reading up on it and wouldn't try to start until you figure...
