2017 AWD turned off while in snow

Hey everyone. I have a 2017 equinox LS awd and we just had a blizzard here in winnipeg and while driving through about a foot of snow around the block my awd turned off. I literally drove around the block, have new winter wheels and tires. Seems a bit premature to overheat the system.

Any thoughts?
