I have owned ford focus with the mazda duratec engine that ran 250K+
bought the mazda 3 because the newer focus's had tranny issues.
Have not owned a GM product since my 1991 saturn SL.
Did not research much because of the opportunity.
I could be dead wrong!

I get 33-34mpg on my 2nd Gen Equinox, even after 13 year, 215k miles. Key is high quality preventative maintenance, premium oil/filters, change every 5k, and use Top Tier premium, non ethanol fuel. It will pay for itself in the long term.

2020 1.5L:
29.3 for my last tank.
28.1 is my average since I bought it in March 2024 (8821 miles since).
33 on looong highway trips (I'm sure I do well on short highway trips too, but the local milage brings it down).

I took my 2018 on an 88 mile drive that was 99.5 % highway 55 to 65 mph and almost always with the Cruise Control and A/C on. Topped off at the beginning and at the destination. I took 2 gallons of fuel and there were 2 people in the car. A few months later I took the same trip but in with 4 people in the car. This was during the winter so no A/C. Surprised again, it used 2 gallons and I couldn't squeeze another drop into the tank .

I am on my first take of the one I just bought, and it's claiming 33.6mpg. I will caluclate after a fill, but that seems pretty high! w
My 2017, 3.6 gets about 14 in town, 22-23 hwy. Been that way since day 1. Bought new. I do use the remote start to cool down / heat up so I'm sure that hurts some.

Hello. I own a 2018 1.6L turbo diesel Premier Equinox bought new in 2018that has over 40,000 miles on it. I get 33 to 38 in city driving and 48 to 57 highway. We love the power and economy with this engine. I know quite a bit about mine and one thing is that it is significantly heavier than you 1.5L gasoline version. It only makes sense that would give you better than typical gas mileage. Especially if you do not drive with heavy loads of people or other items in your vehicle. I have been pleasantly surprised at the fuel economy that I have gotten with the highest being 57.9 mpg on a trip.
