How did all the acorns and wasps end up in the enclosed filter box?? Where is the opening located?

You should be able to see where the opening in the bottom of the air filter housing routs to. It's usually into the fender well, or somewhere forward of the radiator.

Finding anything on the dirty side of the air cleaner is normal. I've found them packed with sunflower seeds, with the filter being partially rodent chewed and I've also found them packed with sand and dirt.

Thanks, I am so use to the air filter sitting on top of my Holley 4-barrel. LOL

Hard to believe a squirrel can get up in there though.

Here's what I found on our 2015 Nox 2.4 while going after the upstream O2 sensor. A mix of sound insulation from the wheel wells & foam from the underside of the cover above that nest. Rodents suck.

I have heard and tried it here in Florida for mice. Take some cotton balls and add peppermint oil (Amazon) and place them around the engine. The only place I found acorns was in the air filter well.
