No luck here. When I ask about "Surround Vision Recorder" I get a "Sorry I don't understand" message. Tried it both with Google Assistant and Siri.

I found this thread while looking for info. While waiting for an oil change, the parts guy pulled my build sheet. I haven’t compared it to the QR code yet to see if the printout is more detailed. Going down the RPO list, I came across XVR. I was under the impression only Cadillac had it, but it’s on my build sheet. I also didn’t see it anywhere while playing around in the configuration options when I bought the car (Nov 2024).

My wife has the car on a road trip, so it may be a bit before I can check in person. If you look at my earlier post from GPT-5, it mentions GM and Chevy, so I’m hopeful.

@PintoKid, just curious—if you scan your QR code, do you show RPO XVR?

Here’s the quick how-to for using Surround Vision Recorder on a Chevy/GMC with 360° cameras:

  • What it does: Records video from the vehicle’s cameras (typically the front/rear and stitched surround view) to a USB drive while driving or on demand. It’s separate from the dashcam-style “Front Camera Recorder” on some trims, but usage is similar.
Steps

  1. Prepare a USB drive
  • Use a quality USB 3.0 stick, 32–128 GB.
  • Format FAT32 (exFAT also works on many models). Empty drive is best.
  1. Plug it in
  • Insert into the data USB port (usually front console). Avoid charging-only ports.
  1. Enable recording
  • On the infotainment screen: Camera app or Apps > Surround Vision > Recorder.
  • Accept prompts to set the USB as the storage device.
  1. Choose mode
  • Continuous/Auto: Begins recording when you shift to Drive and stops when you turn the vehicle off.
  • Event/Manual: Tap Record to start/stop clips as needed.
  • Parking/Event (if available): Records when sensors detect an impact or motion while parked; requires vehicle to allow standby power.
  1. Verify it’s working
  • Look for the red dot/REC icon on the camera view.
  • After a short drive, stop recording and safely remove the USB, then check on a computer. Files are typically MP4 in dated folders.
  1. Manage storage
  • The system overwrites oldest clips when full (loop recording). Protect important clips by copying them off the USB.
  • Some versions offer a “Save/Lock” button to prevent overwrite for the current clip.
  1. Good practices
  • Keep lenses clean for usable footage.
  • Don’t block the rearview mirror camera (if equipped).
  • In some regions, recording in public has legal considerations; follow local laws.
If you share your model year/trim and infotainment version, I can give the exact on-screen path and supported formats for your configuration.

Thanks for the detailed steps. The one thing I'm not sure about is where to find the QR code you are referencing. Is it in the owner's manual or on the Equinox somewhere? Regardless, I won't be able to check any of this out for about a week. I took my Equinox in for its first oil change and reseal of its coating and while they were checking it out they discovered leakage from my transmission. My service guy said it looks like they weren't properly tightened at the factory.

In the interim they've given me a Blazer EV. Nice vehicle and I can see where I wouldn't mind having an EV with one exception. It doesn't support Car Play and while it does have a series of Google features I miss the integration with my Apple Ecosystem. Seeing as GM is moving away from CarPlay completely with future vehicles there's a good possibility that this will be my last GM vehicle. I'm not that impressed with GM handling the software going forward considering the Android features in my Equinox show as Android 12 and the last security update last December. Doesn't exactly instill confidence in their ability to support the software.

I finally had a chance to get the QR code and check out my 2025 RS AWD and XVR isn't on my build sheet . I have the Safety and Technology package which includes the HD Surround Vision, but it appears my 'Nox didn't get the XVR option. Mine was built in August '24 in Mexico.
