2024 Equinox: I cannot remove the rear wiper blade. I have applied much greater force than a youtuber illustrated & it just will not budge. What would a shop do? What can I do without major disassembly or damage? Any suggestions? Thanks, Lee

Hey Lee,

Stop in at a local shop and have it replaced. It might cost a few extra dollars, but if they break it it's on them.

Shop wants check-in + labor + part(s). Was hoping someone experienced this before. If not, since this is the rear & least used wiper, I will wait until regular service next March. Thanks.

Some auto parts stores will install wipers for free with purchase. I know Autozone in PA offered me this, but I declined as I could do it myself. This was a few years back tho (2019?), as I was traveling and had immediate need. I usually buy several wipers at a time from Rockauto so I have them on hand.

I have a 22, which is the same wiper as 24 and it takes some force to change it. In fact, 3 mechanics tried and failed, mine was one of the first ones of the new style they attempted. when the 3rd guy said something about a pry bar, I looked at the new blade, then stuck my fingers between the blade and arm to get more leverage and popped it off - it took me a few tries and my fingers hurt a little, but I got er done. . Service manager joked if I wanted a job there LOL

Go to Autozone, but ask if they have someone who is familiar with this blade that can help you. Tell them how easily it breaks (it doesn’t, but that should scare off the hobbyists). I had them change mine, but it took me and two of them to figure it out (it’s way more difficult than it should be).

I have a '23 and have recently changed it out myself. I took the plastic cover off of the wiper and took the arm off with a wrench. The blade came off with a little force when the blade is basically perpendicular to the arm, and I had to get the OE from Rock Auto. The ones at auto part stores didn't have the slot that the blade needs to sit flush on the window. They outdid themselves with this area of the car.

Have you watched this YouTube Video? I would suggest to put a towel between wiper arm and glass.

I saw that one and another one that showed to take off the arm with a 1/2" wrench. The little slot you see at the end on the blade is the whole reason I had to get an OEM blade. I tried a couple from AutoZone and Walmart, but the OEM is the only one that was fine. It takes a bit of force because of the way it connects.

You shouldn't have to apply a lot of force, I removed mine on my 2018 without any effort. The cover snaps off easily, you'll need a small flat blade screwdriver to lift the tab at the centre of the wiper and it should just come off. As for a replacement, Amazon has the complete assembly (wiper, cover, wiper arm) for a decent price. Be careful the arm is spring loaded and if you let it go on the glass at full force without the wiper you can kiss your rear window glass goodby.

For some reason Chevy decided to make a change for the worse. The '24 & a previous years the wiper assy was made from hate. See other posts. There is a video of someone successfully removing a '24 but looking closely it appears there is no rubber damage. Possibly new & just made as a demonstration. Maybe after a year or 2 the already difficult becomes impossible.

I've changed mine 3 times so far and it is no harder now than the first time, no need to worry.
