Anybody got one? Are they hard to use correctly? Will I screw up my paint job if I get one?

I've done a little research and they sure look good. I just want to use one for waxing, not repairing paint or anything like that. But I sure am scared of screwing up the finish.

Any opinions on this?

I have something like that. I will take a photo of is but yeah... Rubbing compound is a must and I think it would be hard to screw something up if you held it in one spot for 3 days or a minute...

If I could get a simple one just for waxing, that's all I would ever use it for. If my finish needed restoration, I'd let a pro handle that.

What all do you use yours for?

Nothing fancy ,I use a 10 inch orbital "Wen" on black granite ,with the Mothers 3 phase system .Phase 1 pre wax cleaner ,p 2 sealer & glaze p 3 pure carnauba .
I don't like it on light colors ,but it really stands tall on dark .

I only ever use it for swirls ans small scratches... I think a Clay bar is something you should look into.

I've used a clay bar a few times. Works good. But I never seem to get too many contaminants or particulars bonded to my paint out here, so don't have to do it very often.

Is this like what you have?

Looks like this one is just for waxing and polishing, which is what I want. Not a bad price, either. I mainly just use Meguiars NXT wax and it seems to really make light or dark colors just brilliant!

It is more like the Carrand in the upper left .
I also used to use Meguiars ,I have had better result with the mothers .
However it is the equivalent of waxing your vehicle 3 times ,cleaner ,sealer & glaze .
Make sure you get enough extra bonnets which ever wax you use .
I apply by hand and remove it with the polisher and use 6 bonnets,2 for each coat .

So you apply by hand and only use the polisher to remove it? Any reason you don't use the polisher to apply it?

You should look into the Porter Cable Kits that Adam's offers. Plus remember with your discount code you can save 10%. The Porter Cable is really easy to use and it's not very expensive. Using the proper polishes and pads and you can really make your paint pop.

Before a clay and polish with the pc.

The numbers are the same so it appears that you can purchase the polisher alone for $149.23 at amazon . ( price changes as more are purchased ,up or down )

Actually my self, and Jarrod offer those for 120ish shipped...

With the cheap 30 dollar "buffers" from walmart n auto zone. All you're doing is putting in micro maring, and swirls.

The PorterCable with the proper pad and polish/compound will correct the paint. The pc is the easiest safest machine to use on your paint hands down.

Check into these kits here.

So one of the cheap one's will still damage your paint, even if it is simply used to apply wax and no other paint correction?

cheap buffer means it uses cheap bonnets or pads which WILL damage your paint! honestly any towel that is not a premium microfiber will swirl your paint so anything from autozone or any towel that comes with a tag sewn on will damage your paint. and since your nox is black you will see every bit of the swirls. the porter cable with the adams system is the most forgiving polisher and product combo hands down, the results are amazing. never done any machine polishing? get the PC! a full paint correction takes LOTS of time, time that a detail shop isnt going to have unless you're paying close to 400 maybe more depending on the condition of the paint [level of swirlness], and at that price you could by an adams arsenal of products and a pc. if you want as perfect of a finish that is possible on a daily driver you need to stop taking your car to the car wash [unless its touchless] and then hand wash again at home. and then head over to www.adamsforums.com and do some reading. or just watch the instructional vids lol

Good advice! Only hand washing or touchless car washes here. I'll have to invest in the PC. I am VERY particular.
