Went to the Chevy dealer today. I'm going to spend $12k for a new engine for my Equinox LTZ with the V6 engine.

The new Equinox is not what it once was. To get anything NEAR my LTZ, I'd have to buy a 2025 Blazer at over $50,000. I know my old Equinox is not worth $12,000, but I refuse to pay $50+k for a car that isn't much different than what I have now. And I refuse to buy one of the 1.5 L pieces of 💩.

My first Nox was a 14 with a 4 cylinder. I planned on a 6 cylinder it it was getting to expensive so I bought the 4 and never once regretted it. My 18 Nox came with the Turbo 4 but I liked my 14 better. I don't see that much difference in the engines but the 2025 is so much more car than the 14 and 18 were and the 25 was almost the same price. I thought that was amazing considering it was 11 years later.

What, specifically, do you have against the 1.5L? I've had my little turbo for almost a year and a half, and I couldn't be more pleased with it (and this is coming from someone who's had several V8 engines over the years, including two very fast red Camaros). Is it that it's not fast enough for you, or something else?

What's better about the 2025 than the 2014? The electronic gadgetry crap? No thanks.

Yeah...let me know how that little 1.5L works out for you in a couple of years. They're crap...under powered and are junk.

Okay. Well that's what the lifetime powertrain warranty is for. And nobody is forcing you to buy a new one, so I'm glad that you're happy with your current vehicle.

Sure. They depend on you trading in every 3-4 years. I prefer to have my cars paid for, not on 3 to 4 year leases. I'll keep driving my older, owned cars.

I refuse to spend $50,000+ on this new crap Mary Barra is pushing.

My 2013 Nox V6 blew the front differential at @ 350,000 km, just after i replaced the transfer case, AC compressor and a few other items. This was in 2021 when the pandemic had used cars costing more than new ones. So I got my 2022 RS and at first i was thinking I might want to trade it for a Blazer V6, but at that time there were no Blazers available. I felt a little cramped as the interior and seats were smaller than the 2013.

By the time the Blazers were available, I realized I had acclimated to the 2022 Nox and loved it. While I had similar initial thoughts as the OP, in the end I am very pleased with my 2022 four banger. Especially at the gas pump! I am at 148,000km and trouble free.

The new 1.5 with AWD actually drives nicely and rides much better than our 2014 2.4.

Still better than $50,000.

The reason it was so expensive was because the previous female owner continued to drive it when the timing chain went. The engine had to come out twice, first for the chain and then to rebuild the entire engine when other damage was detected. That damage was literally the #4 piston rings. No damage to the block. If it wasn't for the CEL, it ran fine after the $4k timing chain and head job.

My point is, the new Equinox is crap. It won't make it to 100k miles. Look at the new 6.2L engines. My V6 should go at least another 150,000 miles.

I paid @ $33,500 for mine after converting to USD. And it is top of the line RS, it has every option, only the Premier costs more. I had to take what they had when my 2013 differential blew. No one had reserved this one because it was fully loaded, but I do not regret buying it one bit.

I'm at about 92,000 miles, after converting from KM, guess I better start looking around  Damn thing purrs like a kitten tho. and that gas mileage!!!

Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do, guess we shouldn't be too hard on the OP. It's his money.

It runs like new. Had my machinist do it, so he machined the heads and everything. Specializes in performance engines...hemis, LS and coyotes. So I'm pretty confident it's good for a long time. Used all GM parts, except for the rod and main bearings...used Clevite.

I hear you. I am not a wealthy man by any means. I paid $19500 for my 2021 Equinox LT 1.5 AWD last year with 34k miles on it. Even if I was loaded I wouldn't spend $50k for a daily driver. If you're all into fancy and have to have this, that and the other thing, it's a personal choice and not necessarily a wise financial move.

There's got to be a million LYX 1.5s and the various generations of 3.6L engines out there today. I think you'll find way more unhappy 3.6 V6 owners than that of LYX or LSD 1.5s. Talk to anyone in the auto repair industry and they'll confirm this. I also own 2021 Traverse with the LFY 3.6. I love the vehicle, but I have no more faith in its 3.6 than I do with the 1.5 in my 2021 Equinox.

Of course the traverse with the 3.6 is more powerful. It better be with 2 more cylinders and 100 more HP. It also gets 20mpg vs the 32mpg my Equinox gets.

The LYX and newer LSD 1.5 engines are very different and a better engine overall than the earlier 1.4 turbos that the Trax, Cruze, etc used for years.

We have been very satisfied with the performance of the 1.5 turbo. The most impressive for us is the MPGs.

And what is this dislike for new electronics? Our other car is a 2011 Camaro, and the difference in electronics is like night and day. Android Auto via bluetooth. Just wow.

I don't need or use any of that crap. First, the 1.5 L is underpowered and this will lead to the premature failure of the engine, not much after 100k miles.

I bought my 2018 Premier with the 1.6L Diesel new and I am very pleased with it. Performance of the drivetrain is good and I have to be careful not to spin the tires when accelerating. I find I can at least keep up with larger engined vehicles and leave many of the small gas engined vehicles. as for fuel mileage I dare you to get 40 mpg in city driving or 60 highway as I have gotten. My fuel lasting 550 miles! Oh and the myth that diesel cost so much more than gas. at just .65 to .80 cents more than regular gas and I get twice the mileage! So I can drive farther and fill up less often and the gasoline costs less??? This does not add up! And luxury? I really like this diesel and would not trade it for a gas fueled car for anything

Diesel and gas are two different animals. On the subject of fuel economy, if your car is flex fuel and can run E85, a 2.4L would cost about the same as a diesel, given the cost of E85 being 50% that of diesel fuel. And with a much lower maintenance cost.

AND, GPS tracking, monitoring your driving and collecting data for the insurance companies. Oh yeah, that's what I want. Not!
