Death Valley (Titus Canyon and Racetrack Playa), Anza Borrego (Split Mountain), and Salton Sea (Painted Canyon). 2011 LTZ AWD with Falken Wildpeak AT tires on 18" wheels.

I didn't avoid the sand, just kept a reasonable speed through the softer sections. The AWD and all-terrain tires worked quite well for these scenarios. Ground clearance was the real limiting factor. I turned back a couple of times when the rocks got too big or the trail too rutted.
