Recently inherited my dad's 2014 equinox and have been looking into upgrading the infotainment unit with something that has Android auto. Since the car has the touchscreen factory system my research shows that the only "proper" way to do this is to purchase some parts from Crutchfield. I have a few questions before I order anything or proceed with this project.
1 - Are the only things that I need from Crutchfield the iDatalink Maestro RR interface module along with the the iDatalink HRN-HRR-GM2 harness? Or are there other adapters/harnesses that I may need?
2 - Behind the touch screen, I know that there is some plastic that will get in the way of most aftermarket 2 din head units. If I cut this plastic is there space behind it? Is there any critical systems that are housed directly behind the plastic that would keep me from installing an aftermarket unit?
3 - Assuming everything works out fine, is it ok to just leave the old receiver/CD player mounted behind the center console or would that cause any issues?
Any advice or guidance from someone who has done this before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!
