Gas pedal question/problem!

Good afternoon all,
I have issue with my 2021 Equinox (approx 50 thousand miles). My better half was driving home, we were pulling up on some stopped traffic.
We started to slow down, we slowed down and stopped.
As she took her foot off the brake, the Equinox shot forward - next thing I knew we ending up rear ending the car in front of us.
It was hot that day 98 degrees plus, air conditioning was on. I had thought that the better half had slipped up.
The gas pedal was clear, nothing blocking it / holding it.
Equinox has been in the body shop for over two weeks now. We are waiting to get the vehicle back ( little over $5000.00 bill - ouch)
Has anyone had an issue with the gas pedal freezing up or something causing the engine reaction!
