I have owned my 2025 Equinox since December 2024, and within the last month, it has suddenly accelerated on its own. It has happened on the interstate, driving out of our neighborhood, and in a store parking lot yesterday. It is rather scary—I'm almost afraid to drive it. It is currently in the shop, trying to get the problem diagnosed. Has anyone had this problem? Or has even heard of this issue? Hoping to get this problem solved. Thanks.

I've never heard of that issue before... glad it's in the shop, hopefully they can diagnose and resolve the issue.

What type of acceleration? Gas pedal to the floor, out of control, or just faster than you want to go? Was your foot on the go pedal at the time? Does hitting the brake make it instantly stop?

Just asking questions to gather info.

E-throttles are pretty fool proof. Anything is possible, but any miss-match between the accelerator pedal position sensors and the the throttle position sensors default you to high idle in a fraction of a second. Even if the throttle plate jambs in a position, the position sensor miss-match will throw it to high idle.

Pretty much out of control fast. I assume when you say go pedal, you mean accelerator. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was not accelerating. It takes pretty strong braking to get it to stop.

No check engine light and no codes present per?

I know it's silly and it was probably the dealer's first look, but what type of floor mats are in use?

No lights or codes. Floor mats are fitted - they are fine.

I had a few instances where the Adaptive Cruise would keep accelerating, even when the car in front of me slowed down. It was in the winter, so if the sensors in the bumper had slush, ice or snow on them, maybe that had something to do with it. The dealer recalibrated the Adaptive Cruise and it did it once afterwards, but just that once.

But mine has never accelerated on it's own like described here. Have you had the dealer check it yet? You'd think there would be some code stored they could find in a scan.

As the manual cautions, it is not foolproof and you need to keep your attention on everything around you.
