I have a 2023 Equinox LT with the 1.5L with just over 50,000 miles on it. On my way home from work a couple weeks ago the engine started sputtering on the freeway. I was able to get it onto the shoulder. The check engine light came on and a message that said, "Reduced Power". I had it towed to the dealership I bought it from. They told me that they needed to replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump and rails. The warranty for the emissions system had expired so I get to pay for that part. They put it back together and it threw a bunch more codes. Something to do with a cylinder head, valves, and I don't know what else. I am still not sure exactly what happened or exactly what they are doing. They have to order a bunch of parts and do some major engine work. Fortunately that part is covered by Warranty. They are telling me 5-7 more weeks for repairs.

With that said, I wonder:

Has anyone else had this happen?

If so, do the repairs last or am I in for a long road of trouble?

Sounds like the dealership is throwing parts at a problem they can't diagnose. Like any repair place dealerships range widely in abilities. Just because it is a dealership does not make it the gold standard, as you are discovering. Good luck.

I have the same model and year, but I am having a problem of the RPM will surge or go up some while going 30 - 55 mph at a constant speed. I can be on a road doing 40mph and watch the RPM go up about 1k. It will not do it when it is going up or down a hill or with a couple of extra people in the car. I saw a friend who is a mechanic who worked for Benz, BMW, and Audi in Europe for several years who now teaches, and he was thinking it was something to do with the accelerator sensor or something. After reading your post, I am not hoping it has a fuel pump problem.

I've had to replace two HPFPs on my 2023 RS, one at 45k and the other two weeks ago at 97k. When the pump fails, it floods the engine and when you try and drive it it forces more gasoline into the engine. You should have smelled the odor of gasoline inside the vehicle but likely weren't able to smell it outside. They have to replace the pump and clear out the flooded engine. Don't know anything about replacing the rails. The repair is about $700 - 250 for the part and about 350 for the labor, plus taxes and fees, and it took my shop a couple of hours each time. You may have other issues mine didn't have. The second part was covered under warranty. Hopefully GM will recall these POS fuel pumps so I can get my $1500 in repair costs back.
