I recently bought a 2021 Equinox LT with HID headlights. The first time I used them, I noticed that the headlights were aimed very high. High beams were hitting close to 10' off of the ground. I adjusted the headlights down to where they should be which was easy enough to do.

There seems to be a lot of light on the sides of the road from these headlights. Is that normal with HID headlights? Light coverage down the road is okay, but seems to cover both lanes of a two-lane road rather than being concentrated in the lane I am driving in. Again, HID lights are new to me. Thanks for any insight you can offer!

GM's term for the lamps in these headlamp assemblies is Bi-Xenon. Like you say, they're ballast driven HIDs. The beam pattern you describe sounds normal. I very much like this headlamps and find them to be a lot more helpful than all the halogen/incandescents I've owned prior. My 2021 Equinox LT is equipped with them as is my 2021 Traverse LS. They use a solenoid actuated shutter that's built into the headlamp assembly for the high/low beam.

Thanks for that info. I like the auto high beam feature on this Equinox, too. Coming from a 2009 Ford Fusion that I bought new, the technology and safety features in the Equinox are impressive.
