Good morning! First post ever so be patient with me... :ROFLMAO: I have a 2019 Chevy Equinox 1.5L with some 86k miles on it. I have noticed when idling, the engine seems to have a slight sputtering. I also notice a weird sputtering/pausing in the engine at around 40-50 mph only if I am depressing the pedal slightly. If I punch it quickly, I cannot perceive the same issue happening. I do not see any changes on my RPMs and transmission seems to be shifting properly. Anybody has had this issue? If already posted, can you provide a link? It seems very similar to what happened once with my 2017 Chevy Trax. Also want to point out this started happening during the frigid temperatures we have had in VT for the past month+. Any help or knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks!

Any CEL or reduced power warnings?
If you have never cleaned the throttle body it could be due.
You could try some Lucas Oil fuel additive, that might help.

Hey! No CEL and no lights coming on. I can try those, I have an appointment at the mechanic tomorrow, but wanted to check if anybody had gone thru these issues before and might be able to point me in the right direction. If they can't come up with anything I will try these options.

UPDATE:

The dealer first said it was the spark plugs: $280 no change
Second day with same issue they said it was injector #3: $700 no change
It is currently back at the dealers; they have been working for around 6 hours and still they have the slightest clue on what could be the issue with the car since they have no codes to inform them on what to do. If anybody knows an expert on these cars that could point us in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

It's exceedingly difficult these days, but you need to find a mechanic/tech that can do real diagnostic work as opposed to just reacting to codes, guessing and replacing parts. Are there trouble codes present that are not (yet) lighting up the check engine light?

I would start by gathering fuel trim data, mass air flow data, baro readings, boost readings, etc..etc.

Have not picked up my Equi yet but they say they have solved the situation. Apparently there was an abundant amount of carbon build up on the valves which were causing the misfire on cylinder 3. They were not able to find a solution and wound up having a GM technician come in to their service center to corroborate the solution and show them how to do a "cleaning procedure" that is part or the recommendations on the current TSB. Once I actually drive my vehicle today I can update this post and let you know how everything went. FYI this procedure has no recommended timeframe as a maintenance issue and cost for it will vary by location but they told me it is around $400 to do it. If this helps anybody in a similar situation as me it would make my day so you don't have your car at a shop for over 1 week.

I hope this works out for you. Carbon build-up on the backs of the intake valves is a "feature" of engines with direct fuel injection. I have not heard of carbon build-up being so bad on an LYX 1.5 that walnut shell blasting or the likes was necessary. To me it feels like these guys are at the point they're just trying things and hoping it works.
