I'm planning a road trip that will take me over some unpaved roads (Monument Valley/Valley of the Gods and Apache Trail among others) and while the Activ has 8" ground clearance, is it possible to put a 2" lift in to minimize bottoming out?

I cannot answer your question about the lift.

Some time ago, my wife and I took a driving tour from the Midwest to San Francisco. One of our stops was the Valley of the Gods park. We were driving a new, rented Mercury Grand Marquis. We took the unpaved scenic tour road at Valley of the Gods park, and experienced no problems - but the unpaved road was dry and did require slow driving due to loose gravel.

Instead of modifying your vehicle, and possibly voiding some of the new-car warranty, why don’t you contact the Park Service for the areas you plan to drive and see what the road conditions are?

I installed the GM Accessories splash guards on my wife’s 2025 Equinox RS AWD (very easy). You may want to install the guards before the trip?

Thanks Red ... I will reach out to get more info on the areas and I will get the splash guards.

One tip.

If you install the GM Accessories splash guards, they come with new screws and one pop rivet for each guard. Two guards per kit - front and rear. They are vehicle specific and left / right / front / rear specific. The instructions with illustrations can be downloaded at the GM Accessories website, as the kits do not include instructions.

The pop rivet is designed to fasten the guard underneath to the black plastic rocker cladding, after drilling one pilot hole. Instead of using the pop rivet, I drilled a small pilot hole where indicated (in the black plastic rocker cladding), and fastened the guard underneath using one of the removed black screws (to be discarded according to the directions, because a longer provided screw is used).

That would enable me to easily remove one or more guards if needed, such as if it was damaged by road debris.

The front guards can easily be installed by turning the front wheels. There is not enough clearance room to install the back guards, so I had to raise the car and remove the rear wheel(s).

Thanks for the tips, Red. I will keep that in mind.

Might be worth renting a more heavy duty SUV when visiting those rugged areas from a local rental agency. Save your vehicle if you are concerned. Just saying it might be worth the extra expense for piece of mind.
