I don't think you ever said was whether the car got started successfully after the jump start attempt. Did it start?
If so, when did these problems start?
... and I ordered a battery jump service roadside, and what happened is when the when the service tick showed up, he applied the negative term negative cable to my negative terminal on my battery, as we all know. You're not supposed to do that on the Equinox. You're supposed to use the ground stud that for to apply the negative terminal to that being said when I try to start my car after the tech assured me over and over again that nothing would be happening.
Since ground is ground
and since the car battery supplies 100% of the current to start the car normally it makes zero difference
electrically.
That procedure is recommended so that the spark caused by connecting the negative cable, which should be done after the positive cable is connected, is away from any explosive gasses from the battery venting. That probably was more likely prior to the AGM batteries the 2018 and later Equinox have, though. Also, connecting to the frame ground point helps assure that a bad battery negative cable is effectively bypassed.
But if the connections are clean and tight and there is no accumulated hydrogen gas it makes zero difference electrically. Remember, the car has no idea at all whether the car battery is supplying the power or the jumper cables are. All a jump start does is provide 12 volts DC to supplement the power normally supplied by the car battery.
Nevertheless , the Owners Manual says to use the stud.
The symptoms you noted, a hot battery post, a smoking alternator, and a failed battery current sensor do not make sense for what you reported as the cause.
It actually sounds like the service tech reversed the cables, putting red on the negative post and black on the positive post.
Or he used a higher voltage than he was supposed to.
Did he actually use jumper cables or a lithium jump battery? 'Cause many lithium jump batteries do not have anywhere near the length of cable needed to reach across the engine.
Do you remember which color cable they had on which post?
