i have my 2.4 torn down in the shop. i need to know if anyone has done a repair the equal the newer ecotec engines that i hear did not use the oil that the 2013 engines used. if so what was it so i might do the same fix?

i have to get rings and rod bearings. i'm not splitting the block for mains as the rods look good. and # 2 and 3 had .003 on the plastigage check. i did not do #1 and 4 as i had the head on and the timing chain off. that was the original reason i had it in the shop.

anyway, my girl said that she put a gallon of oil in it a week. for the last 3 years that she had the car. i did not know she used that much oil and the reason i got it was she had it in another shop for repairs that turned out to be timing chain and they wanted 2100$ that she did not have so dad got it. being i have done my share of engine work and old car restores she figured i could help her out.

anyway i now have for the top of the piston 3.43 on all 4 and for # 2and 3 rods with the caps finger tight i have 1.936 so i have to find out if that is a standard journal and bore sizes? the rest i can figure out.

it sure would be nice to find out how to make is so it will not turn into a oil user again. i'm hoping some have found the fix. thanks for any help. bp.

so update for some reason not much interest in this issue here now so i wll say what i did and then drop it and find a forum that has people on it now.
i cleaned the piston and the head is apart getting cleaned. i found the oil ring stuck hard to the piston and the valve stem seals were worn bad they were all a bit loose.

i drilled out the pvc port in the intake and also drilled it thru so i can clean it when the vacuum test fails. i plugged that outside hole with a 4-40 screw. i may just add a pvc valve to the engine the way i saw one on YT. thanks maybe the ecotec hotrodders will have a forum that is busy with this issue.

i think i will just connect it the same way you have yours as your saying it works good and your not having any issues. i was looking at some of the older car engine and for the most part they had the valve in the vc and on the other vc the breather. on 4 and 6 cylinders they had the pvc at the back and the breather in the oil fill port. so your theory looks as good as any of the engines i saw. the pvc in the filler cap i may go next to ie and the outlet to the manifold and the filtered air from the breather going into the opposite side of the vc. basically the same as the older cars that have worked well for years. thanks

You checked the vin number for coverage on oil consumption issues?

I'm using a quart every 200-250 miles now. Some states have "accepted" the lawsuit. Others (like mine ..Maryland) don't have such a thing. What can be done?

about the only thing left is to rebuild it. can you tell us if you see a ton of oil on the driver side under the engine? where the engine and trans connect? if so you blew out the seal and the only fix is to take out the trans or the engine to get to that seal and install a new one. if your going that route. rebuild the engine. if the car has tons of miles just trade it in as it will just do this again. i rebuilt my girl's engine and i have rebuilt more engines in my life that i can count and this is the first one that failed for oil burning. i even did that pvc bypass shown above. and the piston oil ring hack and better rings and everything i know what i'm doing and it still failed, she said it at 1/2 qt per month again so she is driving it to failure then going to trade it as they will give her the same if it is good or bad.

if your going to try to rebuild and know what your doing i will help with parts you need to do otherwise just get a long block reman and be done with it. because if you take the parts to a machine shop by the time your done you bought a long block. the reman have seemed to figure this out good luck to you. this site may be able to line you up with a good reman store. but they are like 2500# for one good luck to you
