2015 LT1 - Check Engine light comes on intermittently. Has been off since mid May, came on yesterday. Went off briefly today, back on now. It has been doing this for almost 18 months, dealer finds nothing, says only code is 'generic'. In other words nothing specific. Usually by the time I can get it into the dealer the light has gone out. Thoughts? Light stays on for 3-5 days, then goes off.

I tried living with an intermittent check engine light for a couple of months. Once the winter months got here I gave up because your remote start on your key fob is disabled when the check engine light is on. Try another garage or dealer.

A check engine light means there is something WRONG if you can't read it yourself or don't understand what the reading means. Bring it to someone who does. You can be doing serious damage to the car's engine or transmission. It's better to bring it when the light is on, but many events are captured and can be pulled out of the computer. A common one that comes on and goes away is a loose or missing gas cap. Check to see if the gas cap has a good seal and is tight. If in dought and it is more than a couple of years old just change it with the correct one, but it is best to have someone pull any codes and find out what's wrong. You may have a sensor that for the most part works but is so close the limits high or low. That most times it passes but will swing over or under the limit once in a while. Get it checked out and fixed you may see your gas mileage increase a couple of miles per gallon. Also in many states, you won't pass a state inspection even if it isn't on if it's stored in the computer or you haven't driven enough miles since its last glowing. Good luck.
