2012 equinox needs a litre of oil every week, what’s the solution?

You're good, friend. My goal is simply to be helpful. I have A LOT of experience with this platform (being the 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 Ecotecs) dating back more than 20 years. The Seafoam procedure I talked about in post #2 did work for me. Using STP as suggested by another member probably works too. I...

2012 equinox needs a litre of oil every week, what’s the solution?

NOT correct. They come from the factory with iridium plugs to be changed at 100k miles. They can be pushed far beyond that as well, but inspect them along the way (there's a reason why this should be done, but you have no idea what I am talking about). The E39 will report a 'misfire' related to...

2010 Chevrolet Equinox: Orange/Red Liquid Leak on Front Passenger Side

That looks like DEXCOOL (engine coolant) leaking from the radiator hose on the passenger side at the engine or radiator. I have seen many start leaking at the hose on the radiator side, and these hoses need to be replaced after time as they become hard and don't seal without having to really...

Not unless you can hack the BCM.

    Timing chain issue(help)

You're not doing it right. You need to make sure that all 3 colored timing marks on the chain are lined up properly. There is a colored mark on the chain at the crank position that will line up on the sprocket with a dot. There is also a colored mark on the chain that will line up with the...

2012 equinox needs a litre of oil every week, what’s the solution?

I apologize for not responding sooner. I don't spend a lot of time on forums. One thing you should check is the crankcase breather that leads from the valve cover to the plastic intake resonator stamped ECOTEC on the top of your engine. It can get plugged up inside. Here is a pic of my 2.4...

    2015 2.4L oil consumption.

There are some Youtube videos claiming the orifice on the intake manifold is the problem. It's not. Ultimately, GM pushed the compression higher on the LAF and LEA Ecotec than any previous NA version of this engine. The oil ring failure typically causes oil evaporation instead of burning. My 2.4...

2012 equinox needs a litre of oil every week, what’s the solution?

Try Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil. Prior to an oil change, and when the engine was about a quart low, I'd top it off with Marvel Mystery oil and drive for about a week. The night before I changed my oil, I'd pull the spark plugs, dump Seafoam down each cylinder, and let it soak overnight. The...

Chevy equinox 2010 cylinder head interchangeable

Hi Colin. You have a lot of options, but to keep things simple, you will want a head from a LAF or LEA Ecotec 2.4 ranging from 2010-2017. Your 2010 has the LAF. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Ecotec_engine#LAF 2010-2011 Buick LaCrosse 2.4 182 hp / 172 lb⋅ft 2011-2017 Buick Regal 2.4...

Transmission Flush in 2010 FWD with 6T45 6-speed

The stock airbox with a paper filter cannot compete with a K&N system. From the perspective of a tuner, we see it in our logs and make adjustments accordingly. I've been using K&N for 35 years without any problems on or off the road. I'd be more concerned with the filth as a result of DI and a...

Transmission Flush in 2010 FWD with 6T45 6-speed

I sleep better at night knowing my fluids are clean. I expect my equinox to last me 500k mi. It's over half way there already. Are you looking for any performance gains out of this vehicle? While a bit pricey, the K&N intake makes a noticeable difference. So does tuning the engine and...

    2017 Equinox- Excess oil consumption.

I fought excessive oil consumption between about 85k mi and 225k mi before I decided to put in new pistons. I used Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil. Prior to an oil change, and when the engine was about a quart low, I'd top it off with Marvel Mystery oil and drive for a week. Before I changed my...

    Tire Size Options

I run 20" stock wheels and tires from a 2010 Camaro SS on my 2012 Equinox. 245/45 R20 in the front; 275/40 R20 in the rear with a 5x120 bolt pattern. Very close to stock height but much wider and no rub. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=225-65r17-245-45r20...

2010 Equinox - time to renew the four corners

Our Chevy dealer actually told us that the transmission in our Equinox was non-serviceable and they could not change the fluid. That was the first time I ever heard of such a thing. I knew the filter was internal, but even if it had a pan, you're not getting all of the fluid out unless you flush...

2010 Equinox - time to renew the four corners

It sure adds up quickly, doesn't it? I remember the last time I did all that. Night and day difference. Don't let anyone tell you that your transmission fluid can't be changed or that your transmission is not serviceable. That's exactly what the dealer told my wife years ago when she took it...

    My 2012 has codes P0877 & P0989

Those are transmission pressure-related codes that have to do with your TEHCM (transmission electro-hydraulic control module). It will likely need to be removed and repaired, or replaced. There are small pressure switch discs that crack and break over time. Some people buy the kit to replace the...

2015 2.4l Equinox, blown rings / piston, oil consumption issue, lawsuit?

I don't trust the GM timing assembly. Especially the timing chain tensioner and top guide. Since you will be there anyway, yes, I would replace the aforementioned at a minimum. Especially if you plan to keep the vehicle.

2015 2.4l Equinox, blown rings / piston, oil consumption issue, lawsuit?

At this point, you're better off fixing the problem yourself. Put in better aftermarket pistons and replace your timing chain with a Cloyes kit. You should see well over 300,000 miles on this engine, provided you maintain it properly. I ran my 2012 Equinox to 225k miles before I decided to pull...
