August 2011 letter from Chevrolet - 2011 Equinox with 2.4L recalled to repair camshaft position actuator solenoid. Result of problem is rough idle, poor driveability, and/or stalling at low throttle opening.

I am having no problems but taking the car in tomorrow. Told the fix will take 1.5 hours.

Just an observation... I saw one pull into the gas station to the pump next to me. It sounded TERRIBLE. Ticking almost knocking at idle and just overall nasty sounding engine for being so new.

Two questions .
When did you receive your recall letter ?
When was your vehicle built ?
About a week ago mine started making a sound like a critter was in the belt on cold start ups .
I am stopping at the dealer today .

I went to the dealer today ,they have no information on any recalls except for the seat belts on a 2011 Equinox .
There is a lot of service bulletins ,No Recalls .
Can you scan and post your letter from Chevrolet , like I did with the service bulletins I previously posted ? I want to show it to my dealer .
Thanks .

After more searching I found this recall # 11195A.
I also found out that if the dealer did not deliver any of the vehicles in question, they ( the dealer ) would not be notified .
Now that makes no sense at all . What if someone from out of town brought their vehicle in for service ?

2011 equinox 4cyl LT

I am the owner of a 2011 equinox 4cyl LT, purchased June 18, 2011. My husband noticed a noise from the engine when starting. Several weeks later the car started hesitating and finally just cut off at a stop sign one day. I immediately went on the internet looking for equinox complaints. After hours of reading I came upon a posting from a gentlemen who told me exactly what to do. First I had not received a recall notice but called my dealer, speaking to my salesman who advised me there was a recall coming. He got me into the service department where they did recall #11195. REPROGRAMMING the ECM at the same time the camshaft position actuator solenoid (12646783/ 784Z) are replaced is VITAL, also an oil change is a must. I was told to insist on the oil change and was granted the request even though it did not show that it was time. I have driven the car 700 miles since and it is driving very smooth now. I am a senior citizen and the fear of breaking down while traveling out of state is frightening. that is why I bought the brand new car.

Well it's a good thing that all new cars have warranties. I would not feel good about any new car purchase without one.

Here's to hoping that this issue does not arise again for you!

I'm waiting for cold weather then I going in and make them do something.
I still get the rattle every now and then but not when it's warmed up.

In reply to questions asked
1. Recall letter from Chevrolet dated August 2011. Leter states that this is for 2011 Equinox with the 2.4L engine.
2. My Equinox is a 4cly LTZ built March 2011
3. The repair bill from the dealer states that this is recall number 110195 titled Driveability Recall. The work was to R&R camshaft actuator and reprogram.

Before the recall I always drove the car in ECO mode in the city because I liked the shift points better. However, after the recall the car is smother in the normal mode ie ECO off.

Our 2011 Equinox seems to have been experiencing some of these problems the past couple of weeks. It has been idling really loudly for the past couple of months. Now, when we are stopped (at a light or stop sign) and start to take off again, the engine revs up to about 4000 rpms, then jerks forward. It seems as if it is hesitating changing gears. We haven't stalled yet though (luckily).
Its a 2011 LT 1, 2.4L, built in 2010 (not sure of exact date).

Thanks for all the info. Very glad I found this forum. We have an appointment at the dealer on Saturday and I will call them to ask about this recall notice.

2011 2.4 ltz

just had mine in for service this week.....originally went in for a knocking noise, turned out to be something faulty with the water pump...picked it up and drove halfway home and the ses light came on...brought it back immediately and tech said they forgot to clear the codes, give me 5 minutes and you will be on your way. Well, an hour and a half later they were offering me a rental because the actuator is bad!! lol i have put about 150 miles on it after it has been fixed and noticed it is running a lot smoother at idle and acceleration and so far an increase in mpg's...keep my fingers crossed

Here’s an update on our problem - We brought our Equinox in last Friday night, explained what it was doing (revving high, jerking forward). They told us that it is likely low in oil and that we just needed an oil change. They assure us that this is all that it is. Apparently, these vehicles use more oil than normal and since it is low, it will make the engine do some “wonky things.” So, they change the oil, we drive away and the jerking continues. We bring it back in on Monday morning, and they send a service tech out to drive with us so he can see what the issue is. We didn't even leave the parking lot when he felt the jerk. He told us to turn around and go back to the dealership. There is something wrong with the transmission. They have had it since Monday. It is now Wednesday morning. We called yesterday to check to see how it was going and they said they were still working on it and would get back to us. I can't believe I am having transmission problems on an 11 month old vehicle with less than 25,000 KM on it! So frustrating.

same problems

we just bought a 2011 dealer driven equinox leftover with 4800 miles on it back in early september. last night i experienced a momenterly loss of power on the highway. today my wife was out doing errends and the equinox staled out. onstar diagonistic told her it was an electrical short, and that it should be towed. the equinox was towed to a local dealer where they said there is a recall for a cam shaft something or other. shouldn't this have been done before we took delivery from the dealer?
