I just did the thermostat too, and it was really annoying because there is very little room there. You need a 13mm stubby wrench to the the back bolt off to change the thermostat. I also had to use some liquid wrench on the back bolt.
Another option is to purchase the Toyota T-IV fluid. It runs around $7 per quart instead of the GM $19 per quart. Anyway, same fluid, different branding!
Stumbled across this forum and it looks really helpful. I just paid off my '08 Equinox and now a lot of issues are happening (go figure). To save money, I have been repairing it myself.
