I have a 2013 Chevy Equinox 4CYL AWD with 62K miles on it. On 10/21 I was going up a hill and heard a metal on metal sound as the transmission slipped. Sort story and one tow later to a dealership I was told it was a mechanical failure of the transfer case and covered by warranty. No biggie Now the dealership has been awesome gave me a loaner Silverado but three weeks into this they are telling me they still haven't been able to locate a replacement transfer case as GM doesn't have any in stock and there are only 3 in the entire US and nobody wants to part with theirs because they are not sure when they will get another. I have escalated to the GM customer service line and the dealership has the regional parts manager helping but still no end in sight. I told them its not like this was a KIA or something there are hundreds of thousands of these out there and it is scary that a company like GM cannot tell me when the parts would be available. I am seriously close to having my lawyer call them and requesting some sort of alternative vehicle purchase at their cost. That or tell me the factory burnt to the ground and that is why we don't have parts. Anyone know the real story here why it is so hard to find one? Frustrated in PA to say the least..

I don't think it's too far fetched that it is on backorder.

I just traded in a 2011 LTZ 3.0L that had a bad transfer case as a result of a bad transmission(found out after I traded it). The transfer case was backordered for a few weeks, which isn't a good sign.

Just over 82k miles, and the ECM, transfer case, transmission, and spark plugs were completely shot. Never a GM again.

Update on Transfer Case

Got a call from GM Customer Service today. Part is going to ship on December 2nd will take 3-5 days then a day to install. Total elapsed time between part breaking and my car being returned to me at least 48 days.. 48 days.. if this was GM's way of building loyalty or getting me to consider the Silverado truck they have lent me for 2.5 months it is not really working.. Never a Chevy again.. :(
